The farther back you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see." ~ Winston Churchill.
Merry Christmas🥳🎄!
Thanks for being a valuable part of our business and joining with us as we seek to breed the most profitable and adaptable merino sheep.
We love what we do! We love learning, researching, and improving our genetics. We love cracking the puzzle of balancing wool quality with meat quality, fertility, survivability and health traits to get closer to the never-attainable “perfect” sheep.
However, we couldn't continue to invest all the time and resources this takes without your support. So, thank you for being part of our community🙏!
This will be a much shorter article than last month, which was quite a comprehensive look at setting up traits for eID. We'll return to the eID discussion again in February.
Reflecting on 2024
Over this Christmas period, take a little bit of time to reflect on 2024.
What went really well this year?
It's very important to focus on some of the positives. You can get bogged down in the issues and problems, but plenty of great things likely happened too!
One of our wins was being able to send the bulk of our lambs to the abattoir, averaging over 57kg at just 12 months of age!
What are some things that you can improve on for next year?
You can make each year better than the last! Reflect on some things that didn't work so well, and schedule some time (or put it high up on your job list) to address for next year and drive your business foward.
One thing for us is that while most of the lambs grew very well, we had a longer tail than I'd like to see, so we'll be addressing that this year.

It's a green Christmas here!
Looking forwards for Rissmerino
As we enter the new year, we want to ensure we are providing you with as much value and support as we can. We want to help you reach your goals in sheep breeding.
That is why I want to know one thing (or a couple if you have more) that you wish your current stud breeder would do for you (or something they already do that you really appreciate).
It might be a trait that you wish your stud breeder was collecting.
It might be an issue that is frustrating you with sheep such as having to battle with flystrike, worms, coloured wool, poor structure, poor fertility, etc.
It might be that you want your stud breeder to communicate with you more or less often, or communicate with you in different ways.
It might be that you want training, or classing services or field days provided.
It might be more transparency or a different way of buying rams.
Whatever it is, please email (rams@rissmerino.com.au), call or text (0431 071 766) the one thing you wish your stud breeder would do for you.
Since we're feeling festive, we'll even send some Christmas goodies to whoever sends us the best or most useful tip😋!
We believe that it is important for stud breeders to be leading and driving the industry forward and that is something that we take very seriously.
At the same time, we believe it is important to come alongside you and make sure we are breeding sheep that fit your farming systems.
Merry Christmas to you all, and a happy new year! Enjoy these last few days of 2024 and we'll see you in 2025. Let's make it our best year (until 2026!)
Best wishes
The team at Rissmerino.
